This Tableau dashboard looks at NBA team stats data to see the impact of 16 different team stats on the outcome of a game. The data was collected from ESPN team stat summaries of 44 individual games in the early part of the 2019-2020 season.
The dashboard utilizes bullet charts to convey winning percentages when a team outperformed their opponent in a particular team stat. Winning a basketball games depend on a variety of factors so determining one defining stat that impacts winning is not feasible. However, we are able to identify a few team stats that have a higher impact in winning games.
A few of the key insights derived from the data include:
1. The team with a higher Field Goal (FG) % won 78.38% of the time.
2. The team that scored more Points in Paint won 70.27% of the time.
3. The team with more Defensive Rebounds won 65.86% of the time.
4. The team with more Assists won 62.16% of the time.
In this data set, these 4 team stats had the highest impact. It would be interesting to see if these outcomes hold over a larger dataset of an entire season of games.
